The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) announced that the death toll from the islandwide adverse weather has risen to 474, with all 25 districts continuing to experience severe impacts.
In its situation update issued at 10 a.m. today (03), the DMC confirmed that 356 people are still missing, while search, rescue, and recovery operations remain underway across multiple provinces. The number of affected individuals has climbed to 1,586,329, representing 448,817 families displaced or impacted by the disaster.
According to the DMC, the Kandy District remains the worst affected, reporting 118 fatalities. Nuwara Eliya follows with 89 deaths, while 83 have been reported from Badulla. 53 deaths have occurred in Kurunegala, and both Kegalle and Puttalam have recorded 29 fatalities each. The Matale District has reported 28 deaths.
The latest figures also show a significant number of missing persons: 171 in Kandy, 73 in Nuwara Eliya, 43 in Kegalle, 28 in Badulla, and 27 in Kurunegala.
Disaster response teams, the military, and local authorities continue coordinated relief efforts as weather-related risks persist across many districts.
