Sri Lankans in Europe held a silent protest against state terrorism at the famous broken chair protest site in front of the Geneva Human Rights Council Yesterday (12th), amidst the 51st International Human Rights Sessions are ongoing.
This protest was launched to convey to the world on human rights violations currently experiencing in Sri Lanka.
They raised serious concerns regarding the arrest and interrogation of non-terrorist civil activists and student leaders under the Suppression of Terrorism Act, which is not at all conducive to a developed democratic society.
The special thing was that the anti-terrorism act, which was said to be repealed within a year after coming to this summit last year, was enforced with the President’s signature and the arrests were made.
Yesterday too,the protest movement was held near the iconic broken chair in front of UN headquaters.
