Sri Lanka now needs 1000 bed treatment centre for every six hours – GMOA

With the existing pace of the Covid pandemic in the country it would have to open an inter-treatment center with 1,000 beds every six hours GMOA said today (20).
The Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Dr. Chenal Fernando pointed out that the highest number of Covid infections is beginning to be reported in one day each day and said that would be an alarming situation .
“Increasing the number of hospital beds does not control the daily increase in the number of COVID patients … it is not the solution to this problem. The increase in the number of beds means that the health sector is expanding its physical capacity. However, the number of trained healthcare personnel cannot be increased in parallel with the pace of expanding beds and inter-treatment centers … ”
“The decisions we make now will determine the development of Covid infections in the next few weeks,” he said. He said.
Experts continue to point out that it is the responsibility of the government to take this situation seriously, as the prophylactic sector has collapsed as more and more cases of Covid have been reported in European countries and even in the United States.
