One of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated and iconic dancer, Rajini Selvanayagam, passed away at the age of 71 in her residence in Rajagiriya Kalapaluwa today (21).
Rajini Selvanayagam was a true luminary in the world of dance, earning recognition and accolades both at home and abroad.

She was widely known as the “Queen of Sri Lankan Dance” and was honored with prestigious awards such as ‘Kala Keerthi’ and ‘Vishwa Kala Keerthi’
Her legacy extends to the countless students she inspired and taught over the years, contributing to the preservation and advancement of Sri Lankan dance forms.
Born in Balangoda village, Rajini Selvanayagam embarked on her professional teaching career as a dance instructor at Madampe Senanayake Vidyalaya, Halawatha. Her dedication to her students and the art of dance made her a renowned figure throughout the country.
