Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, in a special statement to Parliament, addressed the accusations leveled against him, particularly regarding the no-confidence motion. He emphasized that, despite past accusations against other Speakers, he has never violated the Constitution.

Abeywardena highlighted the gravity of his role, especially in matters concerning national security, such as the appointment of the Inspector General of Police. He criticized the decision-making process of the Legislative Assembly, which he believes jeopardizes national security, terming it a deliberate endangerment.

Regarding allegations related to the Online Safety Bill, Abeywardena urged the public and media to review recorded footage of parliamentary sessions to understand the proceedings accurately. He asserted that he acted within the bounds of the Constitution and facilitated thorough discussions on proposed bills.

Addressing accusations of violating standing orders and chairing the State Finance Committee, Abeywardena clarified the circumstances surrounding these claims and emphasized his commitment to parliamentary democracy.
