Preliminary discussions have been initiated for the production of the Russian Sputnik vaccine and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine in Sri Lanka, Dr.Prasanna Gunasena, Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, said.
The Chairman further said that the first phase of the project is planned to be implemented in Sri Lanka and the vaccination will be carried out in Sri Lanka with the approval of the World Health Organization (WHO) after a scientific review by the technical committees of the manufacturers in those countries as we have two high quality pharmaceutical factories.
He told Neth News:
“I am currently in talks with Russia, China and the United States vaccine manufacturers. Special attention is being paid to the manufacturing process of Chinese Sinopharm and Russian Sputnik vaccines in Sri Lanka.
Vaccine production in Sri Lanka is a complex process. First we try to see if there is room to fill the injection.
There are two European standard pharmaceutical factories in our country. These activities are initiated in association with those factories. Committees of those manufacturing companies will come and inspect our sites, obtain their consent and begin filling those vaccines with the approval of the World Health Organization. A biological function that is said to produce vaccines. What is needed for that biological function is different. It will take some time. But vaccines will be able to fill in and go to the final product soon. In the process, we will be able to begin vaccine production.
At present both the Russian and Chinese embassies have informed us to work with their technical committees to monitor these sites. America is intervening in our request to facilitate the production of high-tech drugs. They want to build a high quality pharmaceutical plant with government intervention. They have a plan to take the products of that factory to our country as well as to America. “ The chairman explained.
