Although the travel restrictions between provinces have been in effect since tonight, no proper guidance has been issued as to how these restrictions will be implemented.
However details for the impose of travel restrictions between the provinces will be given by The Presidential Spokesman within today, Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy and Co-Cabinet Spokesman said.
Speaking at the cabinet media briefing this morning, he stated that this travel restriction is by no means a travel ban. He said that the restrictions will be imposed so that activities related to essential services and the economy will not be hampered and that a series of guidelines are being prepared by the relevant experts in this regard.
Minister Gammanpila said the government’s policy was to restrict the movement of people and hoped to impose travel restrictions on these guidelines separately in relation to the export process, state machinery, export activities and essential services such as agriculture, banking and health.
