The new secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Neil Bandara Hapuhinna, said that he had noticed that the government
Employees surf social media networks on mobile phones during working hours. Since this is a hindrance to people coming to get their work done by them, he would consider issuing a circular in order to control it.

Speaking there, the secretary said that if it is necessary to take strict measures to control the use of social network accounts such as Facebook and WhatsApp during the working hours of employees in government institutions, he would not hesitate to do so.
“I have seen some government officials using their smartphones to browse social networks like Facebook and WhatsApp as soon as they start their service. They don’t care about the people of the country or the other institutions that receive their services. Due to this situation, some activities are delayed. This situation exists in private institutions as well. Some institutions have even created a background where employees are not allowed to use their mobile phones at all during working hours.
However, he has mentioned that he is considering the possibility of issuing a circular to restrict the use of these tools in a way that interferes with the duty.
