A group of members of the SLPP have asked President Ranil Wickremesinghe to hold a presidential election before a parliamentary election.

According to the provisions of the 20th amendment, the President will be empowered to dissolve the Parliament at any time after next March.

The group of MPs have informed the President not to use the opportunity to dissolve Parliament at this juncture, and if it is dissolved, the government will walk into a serious political crisis.

The MPs have said that the presidential election should be held first, and it does not matter who the candidate would be.
