The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) has been accused of promoting Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in the pre-election period. Writing to the Election Commission of Sri Lanka election monitoring group Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has pointed out that the state-run SLBC is broadcasting programs promoting Kurunegala Sri Lanka Podujana Peramun candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In its letter, CaFFE noted that a program featuring the politician’s 50-year career in politics was being broadcast and was promoting the Prime Minister.

The election monitors noted that a similar program was broadcast today (14) morning at 9.00 am as well through the SLBC Muslim service. They have also noted that this was a misuse of state property.
