Sujeewa Senasinghe claimed that Thalatha Athukorala’s explanation for leaving Samagi Jana Balavegaya is completely false.

He noted that her resignation was due to an issue related to her district leadership. Senasinghe expressed these views while speaking at a Samagi Jana Balavegaya rally on the 21. He also expressed his disappointment in Athukorala’s decision, suggesting that Gamini Athukorala would be deeply saddened if he were here to see it.

Senasinghe shared his regret, mentioning his long-standing political relationship with Talatha Athukorala, beginning in 2001 when he worked closely with Gamini Athukorala. He reminisced about their shared political history, including standing up to the government and challenging police actions at that time.

Senasinghe acknowledged that internal conflicts exist within the party, especially when new leaders and talented individuals emerge, but stressed the importance of unity for the country’s development.

He noted that, like Thalatha Athukorala, he too faced leadership challenges but chose to stay and work through them rather than leaving the party.

He criticized her long speech, calling it entirely untrue and rooted in her district leadership issue. Senasinghe emphasized that despite her departure, there are still many talented individuals ready to step up and lead the country forward.
