The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has decided to propose for a vote to elect a Deputy Speaker to table a no-confidence motion against the government.
Accordingly, a spokesman for Samagi Janabalavega told Lankasara that a no-confidence motion would be filed against the government soon after the appointment of the Deputy Speaker.
The next session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on May 4, with the first task being to appoint a Deputy Speaker. Former Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has already informed the President in writing that he will resign from his post and a copy has been sent to the Speaker.
Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Dilan Perera from the SLPP have been nominated for the vacant post of Deputy Speaker.
A referendum will be held to select one of the two.
The spokesman said that this election would show whether the government has a majority or not.
