At least 16 Jaffna University students have been banned from attending lectures since October last year for inhumanely torturing freshmen and being involved in other unhealthy practices.
Jaffna University has started investigations regarding six more students over an incident of inhuman torture of new students, and if they are found guilty, they will also be banned from classes, the governing authority of Jaffna University states.
Out of the suspended students, only eight have been suspended for one year each, and the other eight have been suspended for more than a year.
The university’s premises have been declared a restricted area for the suspended students.
