A senior spokesman of the National Blood Transfusion Service warns that there will be a severe shortage of blood in the coming months due to the non-opening of letters of credit to purchase triple surgical packs which are usued to collect blood from donors.
He pointed out that it is not possible to collect blood due to the shortage of of triple surgical packs.
He said that around 1400 red blood packs are distributed to hospitals across the island every day. The official warns that there is a risk of completely paralyzing the distribution of blood if the packs are not provided in time .
