United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders Mary Lawlor says the day the president puts his signature for the detention order on Inter University Student’s Federation convener Wasantha Mudalige and three others, would be a dark day for Sri Lanka. He  has further requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe not to sign the detention order on three of these,  IUSF convenor Wasantha Mudalige, Hashan Jeevantha and Galwewa Siridamma Thera.

She said she was deeply concerned that  Wasantha Mudalige and two others have been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

“I’m deeply concerned that Human Rights Defenders Wasantha Mudalige, Hashan Jeevantha and Galwewa Siridamma Himi have been arrested under the Sri Lanka’s Prevention of Terrorism Act. I call on President Ranil not to sign their detention order, doing so would be a dark day for Sri Lanka,” she tweeted.
