The housekeeping staff of the General’s House in Nuwara-Eliya has told the police of a shooting incident that reportedly occurred at the Parliamentarians’ Rest—General’s House in Nuwara-Eliya on January 28.
Around thirty people occupied the General’s House that night along with three Parliamentarians namely Gayashan Navanandana Nimal Piyatissa Milan Jayatilleke.
The manager of the Holiday Home-General’s House informed the Secretary-General that they heard two gunshots during a party held that night and had found two empty cartridges following a thorough inspection of the premises the next morning.
The Secretary-General of Parliament has initiated a police inquiry following the complaint he received. However, there were no casualties.
Police are now trying to ascertain who did the shooting and the reason behind the incident.
The police say that nothing has been revealed so far. The police say that they will first record the statements of the bodyguards of the three members of parliament who attended the party and then check whether the bullets have come out of their firearms.
The police also said that they are investigating to find out who the people are who came with these MPs and whether they used licensed or illegal firearms.
The Nuwara-Eliya Police stated that they have not yet been able to locate the spot where the two shots fired during the party were hit. The government analyst would be called to conduct a thorough investigation of the party’s location in the general’s house and its surroundings.
