State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa warns fertilizer companies that if they are not releasing remaining stocks of fertilizer to the market that the stocks of chemical fertilizers will be confiscated on Monday. The Minister further claims that despite the shortage at the market Chemical fertilizer importing companies are holding large stock in their warehouses worsening the situation.
“As government ministers, we had to visit suddenly and inspect warehouses where chemical fertilizers are hidden. That was indeed a bad practice. We witnessed how they are piling Chemical fertilizer stocks. They were huge stocks.”
He emphasized that the government had issued the order several times before but was still holding stocks of chemical fertilizers. Therefore, there is an unnecessary fertilizer shortage in the country, he said.
