Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, who was visiting India, recently met with the Israeli envoy to Sri Lanka and India. This meeting has triggered a flurry of activity among politicians and political analysts.
According to political sources, Fonseka, a prominent candidate in the 2010 presidential election and is known to be preparing for the upcoming presidential polls, flew to New Delhi and visited the Israeli embassy sources said. The Indian government was reportedly unaware of his visit.

Fonseka, who remains the Chairman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has recently hinted at a growing distance between himself and the party leader and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. The details of Fonseka’s discussions with the Israeli envoy remain undisclosed, fueling speculation among political analysts, especially given Israel’s controversial global standing.
