Five senior police officers of Colombo refused categorically to implement the illegitimate orders alleged to have been given by the Western Province Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon in relation to the suppression of the protest held by the opposition political parties and other organizations in Colombo on Wednesday) and they later met with the Attorney General to brief him on the situation sources told Lankasara.
The Senior Deputy Inspector General of the Police concerned has given orders regarding the measures to be taken to suppress this protest which was scheduled for yesterday (02) evening.
However, senior police officers have pointed out that the police cannot act in such a manner based on the existing legal situation. In such a scenario they may have to face the consequences personally.
Even though the police officers were told to follow orders and suppress protests, they did not do so. Instead, they insisted it should be done in accordance with existing legal provisions
However, it is said that these senior officers met with Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam yesterday. They informed him about the scenario that could be created in the face of this situation.
