The Criminal Investigation Department yesterday recorded a statement from veteran film and television actress Semini Iddamalgoda regarding the probe into Thilini Priyamali, who has been arrested in connection with a multi-billion financial scam.
The Criminal Investigation Department had come across several actresses who had induced millionaires and others using diabolical methods. The actresses had persuaded them to talk about their personal desires after establishing a close acquaintance with them. They had allegedly blackmailed them subsequently according to the whims and fancies of Thilini Priyamali.
On the strength of the foregoing evidence, the CID summoned Semini Iddamalgoda to the Criminal Investigation Department to record a statement.
Sources from the Criminal Investigation Department confirmed that she was interrogated for about 4 hours. Information from the Criminal Investigation Department revealed that Semini was questioned at length about an audio-recording incident and her relationship with Priyamali.
She has said that she has not invested any money in Thilini’s businesses and has not taken any money from her. She has also said that she has not intimidated anyone into investing in Thilin’s businesses.
A senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Department stated that further investigations will be conducted regarding the matters arising from the statements she has given. If the need arises, she will be grilled again.
Meanwhile, two other popular actresses, who are said to have supported Priyamali’s fraud, were summoned for questioning yesterday (31), but they have avoided appearing before the Criminal Investigation Department.
A senior police officer said that they were trying to avoid any kind of interrogation by the Criminal Investigation Department by sending messages through influential people giving various reasons.
