Kandy Additional Magistrate Harshana Rajakaruna has issued orders for the appearance of five security officers, including a former acting registrar of the University of Peradeniya, in relation to a case involving the alleged kidnapping of a Peradeniya University employee.

The former acting registrar of Peradeniya University, A.M. G. Jayantha Dharmasiri, Chief Security Officer N. Suriyabandara, Security Regulator K. P. P. Madhushanka, security inspectors Bennett Jayawardena and W. C. K. Siriwardena, along with security driver D. M. S. K. Dissanayake, were required to present themselves before the court. They were granted both monetary bail and body bail.

This order comes after the police reported on a complaint filed by Sanjeeva Ravindra Rajapakse, a technology officer in the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science, who alleged that he was abducted, tortured, and interfered with in his duties.

While most of the summoned security personnel appeared in court, a security guard named Atula Bandara failed to appear, resulting in the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

The incident came to light after Sanjeeva Rajapakse, who had been notified about the termination of his service without receiving any official letter, reported his experience to the police and subsequently filed a complaint in court on September 16, 2022.

The individuals who were released on both cash and body bail have been instructed to return to court on September 21 for further proceedings in the case. The investigation continues as authorities seek to unravel the details surrounding the alleged kidnapping and mistreatment of the university employee.
