The security detail assigned to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been reduced to 60 personnel, according to official sources.

This decision was made by the committee responsible for VIP security deployments, following recommendations from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Special Security Division, and under the guidance of Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya.

The changes were formalized in a circular issued by the committee, which emphasizes the need for streamlined security measures. In addition to the reduced personnel, Rajapaksa’s security team will now include two jeeps, two motorcycles, and a three-wheeler.

The circular further instructs that any surplus officers must be reported to the DIG of the Special Security Division by tomorrow (2). Meanwhile, any extra vehicles assigned to the former president’s security must be returned to the Police Transport Division by Saturday (3).
