Governor Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena of the Northwest Province announced during a ceremony at Kurunegala Maliadeva Girls’ High School that teachers in schools within the province must cease giving tuition to their own students immediately. The directive covers the scholarship examination, O/L Examination and A/L examination.
Governor Abeywardena emphasized that any teacher caught violating this directive by providing tuition to their own students would face transfer. He further stated that a circular detailing these instructions would be issued soon.
Acknowledging the dedication of teachers in remote areas of the Northwest Province, the governor noted that their commitment has contributed to excellent academic results.
The province has achieved higher results compared to the national level, with a 2.5% increase in positive values, securing the fourth position nationally. The governor also mentioned ongoing discussions among Northwest principals at the zonal level to further enhance education in the province.
