The bail application filed on behalf of Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, was fixed for tomorrow (31) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
When the matter came up before Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe, The Magistrate issued notice on the Attorney General following information that notices on the Attorney General had not gone out.
Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate issued notices on the Attorney General returnable tomorrow.
Last Friday (27), the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court imposed two-year-rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 100,000 on Shashi Weerawansa. The case is over an incident where Mrs Weerawansa had fraudulently obtained two passports, including a diplomatic passport, by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Meanwhile, Shashi Weerawansa had filed an appeal in the Colombo High Court through the Magistrate’s Court registrar’s office, challenging the judgment of the Magistrate’s Court.
