Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament today (07) that investigations have revealed that Sara Jasmine, a key suspect in Easter Sunday attacks to Sri Lanka is not dead. However, no evidence has been found to confirm that she is currently living in India. He added that the possibility of obtaining an open warrant against her will be considered in the future.
The Minister made this statement in response to a question raised by MP Mujibur Rahman to the Deputy Minister of Defence.
Minister Wijepala further stated that as investigations are still ongoing, it is not possible to disclose information that could prejudice the investigations.
During today’s parliamentary session, allegations related to the Easter Sunday attacks were also raised concerning four intelligence officers who were under the command of Deputy Defence Minister (Retd) Major General Aruna Jayasekara, who served as the Eastern Commander at the time of the attacks.
MP Nizam Kariyapper raised the issue and inquired about future investigations into the four intelligence officers who served under the then Eastern Provincial Commander, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, and who are accused of involvement in the Easter Sunday attacks.
MP Kariyapper pointed out that although two police officers were arrested during investigations conducted under the current government, the four accused intelligence officers have not yet been arrested.
Responding to this, the Deputy Minister of Defence said that since investigations are ongoing, no further details can be disclosed at this time.
