Singapore Airlines has introduced three additional afternoon flights per week between Sri Lanka and Singapore, effective from June 1, further enhancing air connectivity between the two countries. This expansion comes as the airline approaches 52 years of continuous service between Sri Lanka and Singapore in 2026.
According to Singapore Airlines Managing Director Wasantha Kudaliyanage, the new services are operated using the wide-body Airbus A350-900 aircraft. These flights operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, departing from Singapore’s Changi International Airport and arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
Previously, the route was served by a daily Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner flight, which arrived in Colombo at 11.30 p.m. With the revised schedule, the newly added A350-900 flights now reach Colombo at 10.45 a.m. on the designated days, offering passengers greater flexibility and convenience.
The first of the new afternoon services, flight SQ 463, landed at Katunayake at 10.45 a.m. on June 1, carrying 210 passengers along with 14 crew members and 12 metric tonnes of cargo. The return flight departed for Singapore at 12.45 p.m. the same day with 276 passengers, 14 crew members, and 14 metric tonnes of cargo.
With this expansion, Singapore Airlines will operate two daily flights between Sri Lanka and Singapore from May onwards—one in the afternoon and another in the evening—further strengthening trade, tourism, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
