A large number of Samagi Janabalawegaya’s election leaflets mailed after stamping forged postage from a machine were caught by the staff of the Central Mail exchange yesterday (16).
Postal sources say that the stock of letters is now being collected. According to the department MPs had been issued postage stamping machines after the value was paid to the Department by the MP. The letters had been in connection to a Samagi Janabalawegaya to be held on the 27th.
The sources said that they were preparing to lodge a complaint with the police regarding the fraud and to file a case under the Public Property Act.
The Post Office suspects that the machines that record the value of the stamps have been reassembled and that the seals of an old machine that had been lost somewhere have been broken.
