Police yesterday (16) discovered a box containing 17 handgrenades in the Colombuthurai area, Jaffna.
The residents of a house in the area had discovered the grenades and informed the Police in this regard. Police suspect that the grenades belonged to the LTTE during the war years.
The grenades had been stored in an iron box and had corroded according to the Police.
Having obtained an order from the Jaffna courts, the Jaffna Police along with the Special Task Force (STF) has taken steps to dispose of the grenades.
