The Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa stressed today (10) in Parliament that the moratorium given to those engaged in the tourism sector, those who are affected with Covid 19 pandemic should not be repaid at high interest rates but a real concession.
Addressing his concerns to Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, said,
” A loan moratorium is a payment holiday. But what happens in the end to this loan moratorium and the leasing moratorium? The burden on the institution is being placed on the shoulders of the affected people. They were subjected for an additional interest for the period they had the relief period. Finally people burden gets doubled as they have to pay an additional cost. It wont be a real relief. I request tourism minister to discuss this issue with the Finance minister and solve the problem.. ” The Leader of the Opposition said.
