Renowned Sinhala Scholar Chandrasiri Palliyaguru Passes Away

Chandrasiri Palliyaguru, a distinguished figure in the Sinhala Department of University of Kelaniya and a prominent scholar, breathed his last this afternoon (22), leaving behind a legacy of scholarly contributions. Born on April 5, 1943, in Matara, he was just shy of his eightieth birthday.

Professor Palliyaguru was known for his extensive research in mass communication, producing numerous scholarly works that delved into various dimensions of the field. Additionally, he served on several judging panels, including the Drama Survey Board, showcasing his multifaceted talents. Not only a scholar, but Palliyaguru also left his mark as a revered film critic, enriching the cultural landscape.

In his retirement, he resided in Kadawata, living a modest life away from the academic limelight. Despite his accomplishments, Palliyaguru remained a humble and ordinary individual, deeply respected by those who knew him.

As news of his passing spreads, there has been no announcement yet regarding funeral arrangements for Professor Palliyaguru. His departure marks a loss for the academic community and beyond, mourning the loss of a dedicated scholar and esteemed individual.
