Renowned Journalist and Author Dambegoda Jinadasa Passes Away at 71

Dambegoda Jinadasa, a prominent figure in journalism and literature who served for over 50 years as a respected poet, author, environmentalist, folklorist explorer, and journalist in Monaragala district of Uva province, passed away yesterday (19).

He was 71 years old and had been battling a prolonged illness.

Dambegoda Jinadasa, was a prominent media representative for Wellawaya in the Monaragala District, contributing to various print and electronic media outlets in Sri Lanka. Over the course of his five-decade-long career, he received numerous presidential and state awards in recognition of his significant contributions to both the media and art sectors.

Dambegoda Jinadasa’s profound impact on journalism was most deeply understood by his local media colleagues. His dedication and service in journalism for over half a century were widely acknowledged and esteemed in the country.

Until his passing, Jinadasa continued his remarkable work in journalism, literature, and the arts.

The final rites for Dambegoda Jinadasa will be conducted today (20) at the Wellawaya Anapalla, 5 Kanuwa Public Cemetery.

His legacy in journalism and literature will be remembered by many in Sri Lanka.
