Rajeev Amarasuriya has been returned for another term as President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) for the 2026/2027 year, having been elected without opposition. His formal induction will take place at the 52nd Convocation of the BASL, scheduled for 28 March 2026.

At the same election, former BASL Treasurer Nalin Chandika De Silva was also chosen uncontested as the new Secretary of the Association. He will assume duties from the current Secretary, Chathura Galhena, who completes his two-year term at the 2026 Convocation.

The official results were announced by the Returning Officer, Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne, PC.

Rajeev Amarasuriya, a senior President’s Counsel and a well-known figure in Sri Lanka’s legal community, has been widely respected for his leadership within the profession. During his previous term, he focused on strengthening professional standards, safeguarding the independence of the Bar, and enhancing access to justice. His re-election reflects the confidence placed in him by members of the Association to continue guiding the BASL through a period of legal and institutional development.
