King Charles III has sent a special message of goodwill to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka as the country marks its 78th National Independence Day today (04).

In a letter released through the British High Commission in Colombo, the King conveyed his sincere congratulations and spoke about the long-standing friendship and close historical links between the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

He also acknowledged the valuable role played by the Sri Lankan community living in Britain and commended the two nations for their continued collaboration in areas such as education, trade, and efforts to address climate challenges.

The King devoted a notable part of his message to the destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which hit Sri Lanka toward the end of 2025. Referring to the disaster as a powerful reminder of the growing effects of climate change, he expressed heartfelt condolences to those who lost family members and homes.
