Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies and maintaining its position as a dependable global energy partner, even as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East. This assurance was conveyed by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The discussion took place in the context of the worsening regional situation and its potential global consequences. During the call, President Dissanayake sought an update on conditions in Qatar, paying particular attention to the safety and well-being of the more than 150,000 Sri Lankans currently living and working there.
In response, the Emir reassured that Qatar remains firmly committed to protecting all residents, including the Sri Lankan community, and emphasized that the country continues to remain stable despite regional uncertainties.
He also briefed the Sri Lankan President on the current developments within Qatar and the broader region, offering assurances regarding internal security and preparedness.
Both leaders exchanged views on the wider implications of the ongoing instability, with special focus on risks to vital global shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. They noted that any disruption in these routes could significantly impact global supply chains and energy markets.
President Dissanayake highlighted the need for stronger international cooperation to cushion the economic fallout of rising energy prices, particularly for developing nations like Sri Lanka.
Expressing shared concern over the potential impact on regional and global stability, both leaders stressed the importance of preventing further escalation. They underscored that dialogue and diplomatic engagement remain the most effective path toward lasting peace and stability.
