A security guard of Pushpadana College, Kandy, who was injured in an accident in which an army vehicle reversed into the main gate of the school, has been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of the 10th. Allegations have since emerged that the vehicle was being driven by a woman at the time of the incident.

After the vehicle crashed into the school gate, a woman who was inside the car reportedly got out and fled the scene, raising serious doubts about whether she was the driver.

The incident was captured on the Pushpadana College CCTV camera system. Meanwhile, a soldier has surrendered to the police, claiming that he was the driver of the vehicle.

Police say the car had been officially assigned for the transport of the wife and children of a high-ranking army officer. As per regulations, such a vehicle must be driven only by an authorized army driver and cannot be legally driven by any other person.

Despite this, the Kandy Police have launched an investigation into allegations that a woman was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

According to the Kandy Police Traffic Division, the soldier who surrendered stated that the accident occurred when the vehicle rolled backward while he had stepped out to check for a flat tire.

The Kandy Police Headquarters said they will verify the truth of his statement using CCTV footage. If it is found that he has given a false statement, legal action will be taken against him.
