Members of the public will not be allowed to attend the Independence Day celebrations this year due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The Secretary of Defence, General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne requested the people to watch the celebrations from home instead.
He also said instructions have been given to carry out tree planting programs across the island to coincide with the Independence Day celebrations. He also called on the people to display the National flag at homes, businesses and government institutions for a week.
