Health officials are reportedly compelled on replacing protein-rich meat, fish, eggs or lentils with sprats or some cheap fish in the diet of inpatients of Colombo National Hospital Lankasara learns.
For more than a month, patients’ diets at the Colombo National Hospital did not include meat, fish, eggs or dhal a hospital spokesman said.
He further said that protein is essential for a patient to recover from their illness and that some patients must be given protein on a doctor’s prescription.
The spokesman said that after discussions with nutritionists, the Director General of Health Services will be informed and a final decision will be taken thereafter.
