The Department of Prisons has decided to lift the ban on visitors from visiting inmates from August 15.
The Commissioner-General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya stated that instructions were given at the discussion held at the Ministry of Health this week to recommence the program in accordance with the prescribed health protection procedures.
Accordingly, a visitor will have the opportunity to meet an inmate only once a week. They can only bring toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and other sanitary items, Upuldeniya said.
With the spread of the Covid-19 virus, detainees have not had the opportunity to meet visitors for several months.
