Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela today (17) ordered the remand of a jailer from Boossa Prison, who escorted Ganemulla Sanjeewa to court on the day he was murdered. The jailer has been remanded until the 21st.
The suspect was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division.
Police informed the court that they were investigating whether the crime resulted from the jailer’s negligence.
Investigations have also revealed that the prison officer did not take any action to apprehend the shooter who fled the scene. Authorities have requested a detailed analysis of the suspect’s mobile phone records.
Granting the request, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to remain in remand custody until the 28th.
