It is reported that the President has ordered to stop the implementation of the recommendations made to give promotions to a number of police officers through the committee appointed by the government to look into public servants who have been subjected to political revenge.

The President has taken this decision on the basis of state intelligence reports revealing that a number of Policemen who are loyal to certain government politicians are attempting to gain promotions under the guise of political revenge and that these recommendations would cause adverse issues in the promotions process.

It is reported that the committee appointed to look into the officers who have been subjected to political revenge has a total of 72 officers who have been recommended for promotions in the police.

The identities of the 72 officers have not yet been revealed. It was revealed among them, a majority are those who had not been subjected to political revenge and persecution but instead are those who have close ties with government politicians and were seeking promotions through these connections.

This situation may create a problem in the regular promotion process and sources said a number of officers are contemplating taking legal action in this regard.

The proposal for the promotions was to be tabled at the Cabinet meeting last Monday and then tabled in Parliament after the Attorney General’s approval. However sources said that the process would be delayed on the orders of the President.
