Ranil invites all the parties representing the government for a meeting following objections raised by the SLPP.
After the SLPP protested over the manner in which the previous meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat, to which only a few individuals participated, President Ranil Wickramasinghe has taken appropriate steps to invite all the parties representing the government for another meeting.
Accordingly, steps have been taken to convene a special meeting of all the parties representing the government tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Presidential Secretariat.
It is reported that the Prime Minister’s office has taken the initiative to officially invite all the parties representing the government to the meeting.
A meeting convened on the same lines yesterday by the President’s Secretariat met with stiff resistance, and the majority of SLPP district leaders boycotted the meeting.
The reason for this was that the representatives, including the district leaders of the SLPP, were separately invited by the government without giving an official invitation to the SLPP.
When Namal Rajapaksa was invited to the meeting, the MP apparently said it was more appropriate to invite the SLPP as a party instead of inviting individuals.
Also, on a previous occasion, when a meeting was organised at the President’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the President, the General Secretary of the SLPP, Sagara Kariyawasam, expressed his strong objections to the manner in which the SLPP had been invited. He made his observations in the presence of the president.
