President Discusses Regional Security and Foreign Policy with Middle Eastern Ambassadors

President Ranil Wickremesinghe informed that Sri Lanka is involved in security operations in the Red Sea in order to reduce the adverse effects on the economy of Sri Lanka and to protect the freedom of navigation during a meeting held with the ambassadors of 10 Middle Eastern countries at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (11).

In addition to the existing relations with Western countries, the President emphasized on strengthening the existing relations with the regions of Asia, West Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and explained to the ambassadors about the broad foreign policy followed by Sri Lanka.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that Sri Lanka is committed to the realization of the two-state concept for Palestine and while advocating for the establishment of a permanent and functional Palestinian government and need for the authorities to take decisive steps to evict the residents from the West Bank.

The President stated that the establishment of one state cannot provide a two-state solution. President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who strongly stated that the terrorist attacks of the Hamas organization and the continuous bombing of the Gaza Strip should not be justified, said that it is essential to follow a peaceful resolution for this.

In addition to this, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who mentioned that Sri Lanka is also working to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, also requested to continue providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

The President also called for a ceasefire showing Sri Lanka’s unwavering commitment to the plight of the Palestinian people.

The ambassadors representing the countries of the Middle East expressed their thanks for the constant support of President Ranil Wickremesinghe for Palestine and the Gaza Strip.

The ambassadors of Egypt, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Iraq were present for this discussion.

On behalf of Sri Lanka, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabri, President’s Attorney Ali Sabri, Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aruni Wijewardena, Director of Presidential Foreign Relations Dinuk Colomboge and Director General of Presidential Media Dhanushka Ramanayake participated on behalf of Sri Lanka.
