President Ranil Wickremesinghe has embarked on a journey to Germany early today (27) to participate in the Berlin Global Conference, as confirmed by the Presidential Media Division.
The Berlin Global Conference is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, on September 28 and 29, and will see the participation of heads of state from numerous countries.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to deliver the opening speech of the Head of State Dialogue on the first day of the conference.
The conference is set to host distinguished attendees, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the European Council Charles Michel, foreign ministers, and experts in economic policy and finance from various countries. Leading executives from prominent global companies will also be in attendance.
The venue for the conference is the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT), a historic location that previously housed the East German State Council and the Federal Chancellor of United Germany.
During his official visit to Germany, President Wickremesinghe is scheduled to hold meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, key German ministers, members of the German Parliament, and representatives from the German Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DHIK).
Additionally, Sagala Ratnayake, Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and Chief of Staff to the President, will engage in discussions with Jens Plötner, Advisor on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the German Chancellor. The Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aruni Wijewardene, is also set to meet with Dr. Thomas Bagger, the State Secretary of the German Foreign Office.
Accompanying the President on this official visit are Senior Advisor to the President on Economic Affairs Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Finance Ministry Adviser Economist Deshal de Mel, and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany Varuni Muthukumarana, who will also participate in discussions.
