President arrives : Minister Basil leaves

The  President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa returned to Sri Lanka last night (14) after a short visit to Singapore.

The Presidential Media Unit confirmed that the President’s visit to Singapore was a private one.

The President left for Singapore on Monday (13) for a five-day visit and sources closed to him told it was for a routine medical check up at Mount Elizabeth Hospital . Although the scheduled trip was for 05 days he has arrived to the country earlier.

Following the departure of the President, the Cabinet meeting was held on Monday (13) under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has left for the United States via Dubai today on a private visit.

It is reported that Minister Rajapaksa and his wife left the country on an Emirates flight from Katunayake Airport at 02.55 am.

Currently, there is a huge foreign exchange crisis in the country and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and three of its top officials are on an official visit to the Middle East.

According to reports, this is to get relief for the $ 500 million loan installment to be paid to Sri Lanka next month.
