Grave policy differences are commonplace between the President and the Prime Minister in decision-making regarding state affairs.

Inside sources pointed out that this situation has arisen because the President is acting according to his own will ignoring the recommendations made by the Prime Minister.

It is at boiling point and reached volcanic proportions that it may erupt at any moment, the source said

Insiders point out that most of the decisions concerning the people have ground to halt.

Insiders say it is because the President and the Prime Minister are engaged in a duel to outdo each other.

There seem, two powerhouses within government portals trying to accomplish duties by the people, but it has become chaotic due to wrong and confusing signals communicated to the officials.

Expressing their difficulties, one official pointed out that both the President and the Prime Minister convene the same meeting at different timetables and give contradictory directives to the officials resulting in a breakdown and non-implementation of any decision since the officials are in a state of confusion.

According to political sources, such a crisis had arisen during the tenure of former Presidents Chandrika Kumaratunga and Maithripala Sirisena when Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Prime Minister.

The main reason for this situation is that the President and the Prime Minister are from two political camps and trying to score brownie points by making competitive decisions to stabilize their respective political bases, he said.

However, government sources revealed that similar clashes were commonplace between Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. However, the public was groping in the dark concerning those clashes since both represented the same political camp.

Government sources point out that this tug of war between the Prime Minister and the President will not benefit the country or the people who are yearning for a better tomorrow.
