President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has accepted the resignation of the Speaker, Hon. Asoka Ranwala.
The Secretary to the President, Sanath Nandika Kumanayake, has officially informed the Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, in writing about the acceptance of the resignation.
The newly elected Speaker of the Tenth Parliament, Hon. Asoka Ranwala, had earlier notified the President in writing of his intention to step down from his position.
As per Article 64(2) of the Constitution, a Member holding the office of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, or Deputy Chairman of a Committee must notify the President in writing if they decide to resign from their post.
Following this constitutional requirement, the Secretary to the President conveyed this communication to the Secretary General of Parliament.
