Anuradhapura witnessed a significant cultural and spiritual event as the High Commission of India hosted the 11th edition of the *India’s Rich Buddhist Heritage Exhibition* at the historic Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple complex. The event coincided with the sacred Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day, a day of profound importance for Buddhists.
Unduvap Poya Day commemorates the arrival of Arhath Sangamitta Theri in Sri Lanka, who brought with her a sapling of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi tree. This revered tree, a descendant of the one under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, symbolizes the deep spiritual and cultural ties between India and Sri Lanka. The exhibition’s staging at this holy site on such a significant day further emphasized the enduring bond and shared heritage between the two nations.

The exhibition showcased a collection of photographs illustrating key moments from Lord Buddha’s life and notable Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India. It forms part of a traveling exhibition organized by the Indian High Commission in Colombo, which has been presented at various Buddhist temples across Sri Lanka on each Poya day throughout the year.
Devotees attending the event expressed their appreciation for the initiative, which offers a blend of spiritual reflection and cultural education. The exhibition has been widely lauded for deepening the understanding of India’s Buddhist heritage and its historical connection with Sri Lanka.
