The Acting IGP C.D Wickramaratne has ordered the immediate transfer of at least 40 police officers belonging to various ranks after they had attempted to avoid reporting for special duties in Colombo. The Police had called in officers from other areas after a large number of Policemen in the Western province, especially in Colombo were infected with Covid while over 1000 had to be quarantined.

However while many had reported for duty in Colombo as directed around 40 others had attempted to avoid reporting to duty and had instead called in sick. Following this incident the Acting IGP has directed the officers to be permanently transferred to Colombo with immediate effect for their refusal to obey directives given.
