The police are under severe pressure to find Deshabandu Thenakoon and the police has warned those giving protection to him to evade arrest could be prosecuted.
The police have set up roadblocks, and locations including Colombo, Kandy, Hanthana, Giriulla, Galle, and several others have been searched in an effort to locate the suspended IGP, Deshabandu Thenakoon, who is currently on the run. Legal experts suggest that, in addition to the Waligama incident, Thenakoon could be held accountable for a number of other charges.

Is He buying Time ?
A overseas travel ban has been placed on Deshabandu Thenakoon, but many are puzzled as to how he managed to disappear without his personal security team knowing of his whereabouts.
Security experts have warned that it is not out of the question that the suspended IGP could be buying time and may attempt to flee the country with the help of his network. This possibility cannot be ruled out.
When asked for a comment on the planned arrest, the Police Media Division stated, “The police are eagerly acting to execute the directive by the court,” but this response has done little to clarify the situation. There is growing speculation that Deshabandu Thenakoon may be receiving support from police officers loyal to him to evade arrest. Additionally, there is information suggesting that Thenakoon may surrender to the court when the hearing resumes on March 6th.
