The sub-inspector and the police constable implicated in the shooting incident in the Narammala area have been suspended, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Talduwa, the Police Media Spokesman. The suspension took effect yesterday (19), the day following the incident.
The shooting occurred as the officers pursued a lorry that was disregarding police orders. During the attempt to stop the lorry, the sub-inspector’s firearm discharged, resulting in the death of the lorry driver.
Subsequently, the sub-inspector was arrested and has been remanded until Tuesday (23) after appearing before the Narammala Magistrate’s Court. The suspension of the officers is a measure taken pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
